CCM de Mexico

I only have a couple minutes. But today is my preparation day in the Mexico MTC. I will have to figure out how to send bigger emails because they gave me an Ipad but everything google is blocked so I do not know how I can get all of my contacts.

It was really rough leaving my district behind in Provo. I miss all of them with all of my heart. But the lord sent me here for a reason. I just do not know what that reason is yet. Shout out to Elder Baker because he would definitely not be short if he came out here. Probably 70% of the people here are under 5.7. It is kind of weird actually being tall here.

My new district is good still. Just not the same. They are very friendly and have been letting me get involved with everything. There was a trio so now there is 5 companionships of Elders and a pair of sisters. My companion's name is Elder Reusch. He is from Arizona and is going to Maryland, Baltimore mission. I have only been here for only about a day so I do not have much to talk about. The food is A LOT worse here. Every meal has still been edible though, but my new district warns me to be careful of some of the foods.

On the airplane I had such a great experience on the airplane. There was a 23 year old guy named Aron Nava. He was sitting in between me and an Elder Humphereys. We were just talking to him and then he asked why we were coming to Mexico. We explained who we were and that we were representatives of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had no idea what our church was then we said have you hear of Mormons. He then said "you should have just started with that." He knew English because he went to a catholic school in Canada for 4 years but is from Mexico City. We taught him for probably an hour and a half. That was the quickest part of the flight. It shows how prayers really can be answered because I prayed for a missionary experience, We gave him un Libro de Mormon, and he said he would read it. He gave me his email and told me to contact him when I could. I can not believe that I have already had the opportunity to teach so many people.

Spanish - Everyone I am with has had Spanish for 3 weeks. And since I was in the Pilot Program I have only had one week of Spanish. So sometimes I feel like I am behind. But with the gift of tongues I am really catching up. I can understand mostly everything but it is hard to speak it. I have taught one lesson with my new companion. And he told me it was different because before he would have to translate everything for his other companions. So he said it was way easier to teach when we both knew what she was saying. Here we only teach our teachers, so they are acting as non members. It is different than TRC's but it is still a lot of experience and they are really good at acting.

I do not have any pictures that I can send right now. I will try to figure out a way. Remember to always read the Book of Mormon. It is important to read it every day, you will see blessings in your life when you read it every day. A promise from our wonderful prophet Russell M Nelson.

Love you all - Elder Stokes

Have 10 to write this email

The Internet Cafe closes in 10 minutes. But I wanted to write a quick email to thank all of you for all the support you have given me throughout my life. I cannot be enough grateful for each of you and how you have shaped who I am today. After 19 years at home, so many of you helped me just with your smile or your great example.  The mission is tough. And it is definitely really hard to live with the same person for 7 weeks straight 24/7. I have learned how to be more patient and to talk to Elder Rosas when there is something small that is bothering me. And he has stopped what was bothering me instantly. It is amazing how a small thing could bother me and make me mad sometimes. It was that he said "I do not care" a lot. I do not know why it made me mad but it did. It took some courage to talk to him about it but I feel so much better ever since I did. We are in Juarez right now.. The actually city city. For a council for the 3 branches in our mission. I am excite...

Crazy Week of Traveling

I do not have much time because I am in Ciudad Juarez right now for a conference with the mission president for all of the Branches. So I am going to be short and brief. Friday night we went on an hour bus ride to casa grandes for interviews with the president we had saturday morning. We went back to buenaventura Saturday afternoon. Back to Casa grandes Sunday night. And left at 6 am this morning to Juarez. It was fun to be able to play soccer here with some missionaries.  Polygamy. So everyone in Buenaventura thinks all members of the church of Jesus Christ are Polygamists, because the capital of polygamy is 20 minutes away from Buenaventura.. a place called Lebaron. And to make it worse they call themselves Mormons and that is what everyone thinks we are. So we explain to basically every contact, that we are not trying to change their belief in Jesus Christ. And that we believe in how families are sacred between 1 man and 1 woman. And that families can live together fo...

I thought that I left Utah...

Oh what a crazy week... This week I only had one day where I was in Buenaventura doing regular missionary work all day. But it was such a great week with how I have progressed. We did not see that much progress with the people we are teaching though. Which is kind of sad, because the only way to progress is by doing stuff by yourself and asking the Lord. All we can do is just keep inviting them to do it. And I hope they will. Quick sidenote. The weather here right now is like Utah probably about a month ago. Freezing in the mornings and nights but hot like none other in the days. So we always our carrying around our jackets in our backpacks right now. But it is all great. But that is why I have not left Utah.  Monday... Monday night we got a call from our executive secretary saying I had to go to Migration in Janos (which is 2.5 hours from Buenaventura) early the next morning. And because no buses leave from Buenaventura early in the mornings we had to leave that night to ...
